Modern Tonal Harmony is the methodology developed by Professor Cesar de la Cerda through his 40 years of experience using the Julliard system. His teaching methods are now being used by both students and teachers all over the world. By TONAL MODERN HARMONY, we mean the systematic utilization of harmony resources developed in the 20th century in the field of tonality. It was during the twentieth century that many significant harmonic innovations occurred. They were brought by performing musicians, arrangers and composers mainly in jazz music. The term MODERN TONAL HARMONY is, therefore, an adequate way to call these harmonic innovations given inside tonality. In a broader sense, Modern Tonal Harmony is linked to all musical manifestations from any style faithful to the major-minor system of traditional harmony.
